Eamonn McAteer graduated from the School of Medicine at Queens University, Belfast, in 1981 and trained in radiology at Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast (1982–1986). He completed his radiology training at the Royal Infirmary and the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

Eamonn obtained a fellowship in CT and MRI from Cambridge University in 1991. He was a staff radiologist and Director of Breast Screening at Craigavon Area Hospital, Ireland (1992–2005) and a senior lecturer at Queens University, Belfast (1999–2002).

Eamonn moved to the Gold Coast to join South Coast Radiology in 2006.

His subspecialty interest areas include breast imaging, gastrointestinal and genitourinary radiology and associated interventional procedures. He is a strong contributor and supporter of web-based radiology education.

Eamonn enjoys cycling, snow skiing and other family sporting activities.
