EOS Imaging System

South Coast Radiology was proud to be the first imaging provider in QLD to install an EOS Imaging System. The EOS Imaging System is an ultra low-dose 2D-3D imaging system that delivers high quality, detailed images of patients in natural standing positions.

  • WHAT IS EOS?

South Coast Radiology was proud to be the first imaging provider in QLD to install an EOS Imaging System. The EOS Imaging System is an ultra low-dose 2D-3D imaging system that delivers high quality, detailed images of patients in natural standing positions. The ability to create personalised 3D bone modelling of the patients in a weight-bearing position provides a more accurate view of the interaction between joints, lower limbs, the spine and the rest of the musculoskeletal system.

For the first time radiologists and orthopaedics have a naturally weight-bearing 3D image from all angles. This technology will enable clinicians to better evaluate a patients postural abnormality, make a more informed diagnosis, and plan a more effective course of treatment. This is imperative for patients suffering from bone and joint disorders, or spinal deformities such as scoliosis.

Designed by a Nobel Prize winning physicist, a team of biomedical engineers, orthopaedic surgeons and radiologists, EOS represents the first true breakthrough solution for orthopaedic imaging.

  • BEFORE AN EOS SCAN

No special preparation is required for an EOS exam. If you are pregnant or have reason to believe you may be, please inform your doctor and our staff at the time of booking.

Please be sure to have a current referral from your doctor, and bring any relevant films or reports to assist our radiologists in making the most accurate diagnosis. If you have one, please bring your Medicare or Department of Veterans Affairs card with you to your appointment.

  • DURING AN EOS SCAN

You will be imaged in an upright standing position. You will be asked to step inside the scanner and remain still. EOS allows for frontal and lateral images of the patient to be carried out simultaneously, resulting in a very quick and accurate scan time of just approximately 20 seconds, top to toe.

  • AFTER AN EOS SCAN

Your doctor will receive a precise 3D model of your skeleton with detailed measurements, head to toe.

One of our radiologists will interpret the scan and provide your referring doctor with a comprehensive report about the findings. The results of your scan will be sent directly to your referring doctor, and it is very important you book a timely follow-up appointment to discuss your results.

  • PATIENT SAFETY

This low-dose imaging system delivers radiation 9 times less than standard X-ray, and 20 times less than computed tomography (CT) scans. This is beneficial for patients who require frequent imaging and for paediatric imaging. EOS imaging does involve a very small dose of radiation, which makes this test unsuitable for women who are, or might be pregnant. The benefits of an EOS outweigh the potential risks involved.
