Services | Interventional Radiography

Using modern imaging techniques, radiologists are able to perform a range of procedures under local anaesthesia. X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, or CT Scanning may be utilised to guide interventional procedures.

The most commonly performed procedures are:

Needle Biopsy: To diagnose the nature of any tissue abnormality identified on an imaging procedure.

Catheter Placement: For drainage of fluid collections from virtually any location in the body.

Pain relief procedures: For injection of steroid and/or local anaesthetic into a joint or nerve to obtain pain relief.

Preparation

In many cases there is not preparation required for interventional procedures. It may be necessary for you to remain in the x-ray department for a short time after your procedure for observation. It may also be necessary for you to have someone else to drive you home.

Detailed information will be provided when you make your appointment.
